Servings: 4
Ingredients
- Ground beef (1 pound)
- Salt (1 teaspoon)
- Black pepper (1/2 teaspoon)
- Swiss cheese (4 slices)
- Sauerkraut (1 cup, drained)
- Thousand Island dressing (1/2 cup)
- Rye buns (4, sliced)
- Unsalted butter (2 tablespoons, softened)
Instructions
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
- In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef with salt and pepper. Form the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties, making a slight indentation in the center of each to prevent puffing during cooking.
- Grill the patties for 5-7 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. Use an instant-read thermometer for accuracy; medium-rare is 130°F (54°C), medium is 140°F (60°C).
- During the last minute of grilling, place a slice of Swiss cheese on each patty and close the grill lid to melt the cheese.
- While the patties are grilling, spread the Thousand Island dressing generously on the bottom half of each rye bun.
- Once the patties are done, place them on the dressed buns and top each with a generous spoonful of drained sauerkraut.
- Spread softened butter on the top half of each bun and place them on top of the sauerkraut to complete the burger.
- Serve the burgers hot, accompanied by your favorite side dish like sweet potato fries or a crisp salad.
