Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • Water (2 tablespoons)
  • Cornstarch (1 tablespoon)
  • Cooking oil (2 tablespoons)
  • Sesame seeds (1 tablespoon, toasted)
  • Green onions (2, thinly sliced)
  • Carrot (1, julienned)
  • Bell pepper (1, thinly sliced)
  • Broccoli florets (1 cup)
  • Red pepper flakes (1/2 teaspoon)
  • Ginger (1 tablespoon, grated)
  • Garlic (3 cloves, minced)
  • Sesame oil (1 tablespoon)
  • Soy sauce (1/4 cup)
  • Beef sirloin (1 pound, thinly sliced)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and red pepper flakes to create the marinade.
  2. Add the thinly sliced beef sirloin to the marinade, ensuring each piece is well coated. Allow the beef to marinate for at least 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  3. In a separate bowl, create a slurry by combining the cornstarch with water. Mix until smooth. This will be used later to thicken our stir-fry sauce.
  4. Heat cooking oil in a large wok or skillet over high heat. Once the oil is shimmering, add the marinated beef, stir-frying until it is browned and cooked through, roughly 2-3 minutes. Once cooked, remove the beef from the skillet and set it aside.
  5. In the same skillet, add the broccoli florets, thinly sliced bell pepper, and julienned carrot. Stir fry these vegetables for around 3-4 minutes, until they are crisp-tender.
  6. Return the cooked beef to the skillet with the vegetables. Pour in the cornstarch slurry, stir frying for an additional 1-2 minutes, or until the sauce thickens and beautifully coats the beef and vegetables.
  7. Remove the skillet from the heat and garnish your stir fry with thinly sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds.
  8. Serve your Spicy Sesame Beef Stir Fry piping hot, paired with steamed rice or noodles for a fulfilling meal.
