Instructions
- In a small bowl, blend the tamarind paste with water and let it sit for 5 minutes to soften.
- Use a spoon to mash the tamarind paste, dissolving it in the water. Strain the mixture to rid of any seeds or fibers, ensuring a smooth sauce.
- Transfer the tamarind mixture to a saucepan and place over medium heat. To this, add the brown sugar, soy sauce, minced garlic, minced ginger, red chili flakes, lime juice, and salt.
- Stir the mixture well to combine, allowing the flavors to meld together while it comes to a simmer.
- Let the sauce cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. The sauce will thicken slightly and develop a rich, glossy sheen.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the sauce cool before serving. This allows the flavors to deepen, creating a more complex sauce.
- Serve your Spicy Tamarind Sauce as an enticing dipping sauce, or drizzle it generously over grilled meats or vegetables. Enjoy the burst of flavors!
Tips
- For a twist, try adding a dash of fish sauce for a more authentic Southeast Asian flavor. Adjust the amount of red chili flakes to cater to your preferred level of heat.
