Indulge in a slice of France with this exquisite Tarte aux Figues. Bursting with the natural sweetness of fresh figs, the tart is elevated with a luscious layer of almond cream -- all nestled in a crispy, buttery crust. This traditional French dessert, originating from the charming region of Provence, is a celebration of autumn's fig harvest. Its elegant simplicity makes it a beloved dessert at French dinner parties.

Servings: 8

Ingredients

All-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups
Unsalted butter, cold and cubed
1/2 cup
Granulated sugar
1/4 cup
Salt
1/4 teaspoon
Egg, beaten
1
Almond flour
1 cup
Powdered sugar
1/2 cup
Unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup
Egg
1
Vanilla extract
1 teaspoon
Fresh figs, sliced
10-12
Honey
1/4 cup
Sliced almonds
1/4 cup

Instructions

  1. In a food processor, combine the all-purpose flour, cold cubed butter, granulated sugar, and salt. Pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Add the beaten egg to the food processor and pulse until the dough comes together. Shape the dough into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9-inch tart pan.
  4. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough into a circle large enough to fit the tart pan. Press the dough into the pan, trim any excess, and prick the bottom with a fork to prevent puffing.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine the almond flour, powdered sugar, softened butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined to create the almond cream.
  6. Spread the almond cream evenly over the tart crust.
  7. Arrange the sliced figs on top of the almond cream, gently pressing them into the cream.
  8. Drizzle the honey over the figs and sprinkle with the sliced almonds.
  9. Bake the tart for 35-40 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the almond cream is set.
  10. Allow the tart to cool before serving, ideally at room temperature. This will allow the flavors to fully develop.
